Development of children and young people: a whole-school nurturing approach

nurtureuk exists to improve the life chances of children and young person by promoting nurture across the whole education system and beyond.    For thousands of children across the UK, the reality of school is a daily struggle to cope. Children and young people are dealing with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) issues like never before. In the UK, the need for better support was widely recognised even before the outbreak of Covid-19, but the crisis has deepened, with children hugely impacted by the pandemic. All are in desperate need of nurture - a different approach to learning that prioritises relationships and wellbeing.   Research has shown that a nurturing approach to education works for all pupils, helping every child to learn. Nurture gets to the heart of a child’s challenges and supports children and young people to build connections and resilience. It is a highly effective way of supporting improved behaviour and increased attendance in schools, leading to better attainment and reduced exclusions.   The Nurturing Kent Programme, which is currently underway, has been commissioned by Kent County Council, and is aimed at mainstream primary and secondary schools across the county. It is being delivered using a phased cohort approach, and the research project will focus on one cohort comprising of 48 schools.    Next Steps If this is of interest to you, please CONNECT through konfer, we are open to any and all discussions and welcome your interest.
